What To Expect at Your First Class
Whether you are an expert to pilates or brand new to the practice, stepping foot into a new studio can be intimidating. We get it!
At Peninsula Pilates, we want you to feel like our studio is a home away from home. Our goal is to make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk into our studio for the first time - and part of that is knowing what to expect. Our team put together a comprehensive list of what you can expect at your first class — take a look below to learn more!
Before Your Intro Class:
-Please remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! We encourage you to drink plenty of water prior to your class to ensure you are hydrated and to prevent injury.
- Dress in breathable, comfortable athletic wear (think leggings and an athletic sweat-wicking top), pilates / grippy socks (also available for purchase in studio) and bring a water bottle. Some members prefer to go barefoot on the reformer or wear gloves during their classes, but that is completely based on personal preference.
- Plan to arrive roughly 10 minutes before class starts to get a brief intro to both the studio and the reformer. During this time, your instructor will show you around and get to know you, your fitness goals and any injuries you may have. We ask you to raise any concerns you may have during this time.
During Your Visit:
-Expect to sweat, but don't worry - we have towels for you!
- During class, your instructor will walk you through each exercise and give you guidance on how to make the most of your practice. We will also ensure that your instructor gives you personalized feedback and modifications to fit your fitness level or any injuries you may have.
-Your first class may be a learning curve - and that’s okay! Please give yourself grace and remember that it takes time to get used to the reformer and pilates as a whole. Our instructors are here for you during this time and we encourage you to ask as many questions during class as you need to feel comfortable.
After Your Intro Class:
-Continue to hydrate for at least 24-48 hours after your class to help fight off sore muscles. If you are new to pilates, some soreness can be expected.
-Stretch if needed, your body will thank you!
-Schedule your next visit with us! Pilates is about movement, consistency and good vibes. We will provide the good vibes, we just ask that you show up to the studio ready to work and continue to work hard at your practice.
